The Classroom Leaders of Color Fellowship is a two year cohort model for early career Boston-based K-12 classroom teachers of color. The CLOC Fellowship’s vision, curriculum, and program are intentionally designed by educators of color and for educators of color. Our goal is to develop, maintain, and improve the skills and tools to increase early career educators’ input, impact, and income, towards a more sustainable profession.

Background

  • National research shows that Educators of Color are leaving the profession at a rate 24% greater than their white counterparts.

  • Educators of Color are leaving the field at higher clips before Year 4, a phenomenon we call “The Year Four Falloff”.

  • The result of this “Falloff phenomenon” greatly impacts student achievement. On average, in schools serving the greatest percentages of Black students, for example, 15% of teachers are novice teachers.

  • Early career teachers who graduate from Teacher Prep Programs (TPPs) stop receiving support and coaching after their two years of service are up.

  • Many schools are also not equipped to provide the specific support, coaching, and resources necessary to develop and retain early career Educators of Color.

Devin Morris, Executive Director and co-Founder, and Evelyn Jean-Louis, share the mission and the vision of the CLOC Fellowship.

Educators of Color deserve the support, resources, and community necessary to flourish in the profession and to ensure all students, particularly students of color, have more happy, healthy, and thriving veteran educators of color.
