Our Team

Co-Founders

Jabari Peddie and Devin Morris are originally from the Bronx and Brooklyn, New York, respectively, born to families who made significant financial and life sacrifices to provide their children with high-quality education. Between the two of them, Jabari and Devin can count on one hand the number of educators of color (EOC) they had in lead teaching positions throughout their PreK-12 education. We were not represented in the teaching field at that time. Our academic identities were not shaped by those with shared experiences and understanding.

We sought to change that reality for future generations of students through our transition into the teaching profession. We quickly realized in our early teaching experiences why the education workforce lacked diversity. We both sought change through our respective ascension to school leadership positions. It was through a comparison of notes on our individual small-scale successes through improved hiring and retention practices, we realized we could leverage these successes to support a larger-scale initiative to recruit, develop, and retain EOCs in the Greater Boston Area, and beyond.

As New York City transplants, we sought refuge and community in a city we knew possessed EOCs, but we did not yet know where we all congregated. We realized what we were seeking, we could create. And what we created, could be so authentically crafted for, and by, EOCs that the joy, passion, burdens, desire for more, hopes, and fears would be captured in each TTL experience.
